The Yukon Territory, one of the northern provinces of Canada, offers something that is hard to find in other regions of the world - huge areas of untouched nature with all the fantastic adventures, but also hardships that come with it and have to be conquered by its inhabitants.

It is especially interesting for tourists who want to take time off from modern civilization. The extensive forests, rivers and mountains of the Yukon offer a huge area for everybody who wants to try out the simple life in nature. But don't forget to bring lots of respect for the dangers, that can come with a stay in these wild regions.

Yukon's history is short, but fascinating. Native Americans, fur traders, the Northwest Mounted Police, railroad builders and goldseekers - they all tried their luck in these seemingly endless areas of the North. Some have found, what they were looking for and became "Sourdoughs", the inhabitants of the Yukon. Others gave up and stayed "Cheechakos", greenhorns, who couldn't bear life in the Yukon.

The scenic beauty of untouched mountains, deep forests and untamed rivers make the Yukon Territory a rewarding destination for a somewhat different kind of holiday.

Natural resources and tourism are the two mainstays of the Yukon economy. There is also a little agriculture. All these economic possibilities have to be undertaken despite natural obstacles not known in the more southern regions of the country. Find out more about the problems, that have to be solved in order to get to the rich minerals hidden in the soils of the North. How are necessary supplies brought to the people in these places that are often unreachable by road? How do they cope with the solitude? Why can road travel turn into a nightmare along the roads of the Yukon? Where is the next gas station? Those are questions, any tourist is confronted with in the Yukon.

Native Americans, Inuit and a mixture of immigrants from all over the world make up the population of the Yukon Territory. They also are confronted with life in this rough environment. They developed different methods to cope with everyday problems, that are sometimes pretty surprising.

Find out more about the exciting way of life in the Canadian Yukon Territory, or better: go and see for yourself. You will embark on one of the most memorable holidays of your life. The information collection of TravelWorldOnline intends to help prepare your trip, to turn it into the experience of a lifetime.
