Enjoy your stay at the Rossmount Inn St. Andrews-by-the-Sea

Relax at the Rossmount Inn after a day exploring New Brunswick! Imagine: You spent the whole day on one of the islands on New Brunswick's west coast. And there are many of them that are worth seeing in this corner of Canada: Minister's Island, Grand Manan or Deer Island, just to name a few. You have looked at fishing villages, old mills, small shops or just the beautiful landscape.

Then you come back to your accommodation tired in the evening. You look forward to relaxing and reviewing the impressions of the day. This is best with a good glass of wine and a delicious dinner. These also prepare a worthy end to such a day. At least that's how I feel. That's why I'm always looking for hotels, inns or bed & breakfasts that promise a perfect end to such days. The Rossmount Inn, located just outside of St. Andrews-by-the-Sea, manages this effortlessly.

An inn on Chamcook Mountain

The historic inn with its 18 rooms spread over three floors is located at the foot of Chamcook Mountain. It offers views of Minister's Island and Passamaquoddy Bay. Originally, this piece of land belonged to the Townsend brothers from Chamcook. These earned themselves as shipbuilders and carpenters their livelihood. 1889 finally decided to demolish James A. Townsend's first house at this location. Instead, he built a private home in his place. For the price of 12.000 dollars a stately home with a living area for the owners and an area for the servants in the Queen Anne style emerged. The coach house from that time still exists today and stands behind the current Inn.

So the Inn got its name

In 1902, Henry Phipps Ross and his wife visited friends in Robinson Maine. They went on a boat trip to Chamcook Mountain. There they immediately fell in love with the situation and bought the property for $ 4.500. They christened it "Rossmount" and embellished the building both inside and outside. For this they planted flower and vegetable gardens. They created a duck pond and a fountain. After retiring from work, Henry Phipps Ross and his wife went on trips around the world. They brought along collector's items. They invited their friends to Rossmount and entertained them with boat trips, picnics, clam bakes and lobster meals. After the Ross's death, both of whom died within eight days in 1945, the house finally fell to Dick Harris.

Dramatic times at the Rossmount Inn

In 1961 the old "Rossmount" house burned down. It was rebuilt shortly afterwards by the Sime family from St. John. This time as an inn. The family already owned the 100-year-old Belmont Hotel in St. John. She furnished the magnificent new Inn with furnishings from this hotel. Therefore, in the bar of today's Inn there is a piano that was made for Kaiser Wilhelm. A chess master designed the staircase and carved the chess pieces by hand. They adorn the railing today.

The Rossmount Inn in Swiss hands

2001 eventually bought Chris and Graziella Aerni the Rossmount Inn. The two Swiss, who spent a long time in Australia and Toronto during their lifetime, have turned it into a cozy inn. Chris is known for his excellent cuisine, which he proves to his guests night after night. He attaches importance to the freshness of his products. He also uses ingredients from regional and local suppliers. He also works in nature as well as in the in-house vegetable and herb garden. Therefore, every day new dishes on the table. Even collected mushrooms, local specialties such as Fiddlehead ferns and other delicacies are definitely included. What comes out is a real culinary delight.

In the Rossmount Inn one likes to bed down to rest

After all, what do you need after an eventful day? A comfortable bed, of course! The Rossmount Inn can come up with that too. We are in any case in a room at the front of the house. It has a large window that also gives us a view of Minister's Island and Passamaquoddy Bay. We sit by the window for a few more minutes to enjoy the view. After that we dream in the depths of our bed of our day in St. Andrews-by-the-Sea. A Taste of the Good Life - in the truest sense of the word.

TravelWorldOnline has been online since 2001. Their topics are trips to Savor, wine tourism worldwide and slow travel. During her studies Monika Fuchs spent some time in North America, where she - partly together with Petar Fuchs - traveled to the USA and Canada and spent a research year in British Columbia. This intensified her thirst for knowledge, which she satisfied for 6 years as an adventure guide for Rotel Tours and then for 11 years as a tour guide for Studiosus Reisen around the world. She was constantly expanding her travel regions, but curiosity still gnawed at her: "What's beyond the horizon? What else is there to discover in this city? Which people are interesting here? What do they eat in this region?" As a freelance travel journalist (her articles have appeared in DIE ZEIT, 360° Canada, 360° USA, etc.), she is now looking for answers to these questions as a travel writer and travel blogger in many countries around the world. Petar Fuchs produces the videos on this blog as well as on YouTube. Monika Fuchs from TravelWorldOnline is among Germany's top 50 bloggers in 2021.
