I have been to Boston many times. As a tour guide I first got to know the city from its tourist side. The historical sites are impressive. The atmosphere at the Freedom Trail is unique. You can feel the history, especially near the historic buildings. However, it was not a real Boston vacation. The time was always too short for that.
Later we explored the city as travel bloggers at the invitation of the tourism authorities. That was a completely different experience because we were able to take a look behind the scenes. We met locals who showed us their favorite places. That was exciting and personal.
Boston is fascinating because the city combines history and modernity. The educational institutions are world-famous and there is also a lively cultural scene in the streets. Boston is lively and relaxed at the same time because the people are friendly and open.
One highlight, for example, was our visit to a seafood restaurant off the beaten track. Here we tried regional specialties and talked to the owners, learning a lot about the local cuisine. Experiences like this are what make Boston special.
A Boston vacation is more than just the sights, because it's the little moments that stay. That's why we recommend everyone to discover the city for themselves. Experience Boston with your own eyes and let yourself be surprised. And take your time.

The History of Boston in New England
Boston is a city full of history. On my first vacation in Boston, I quickly realized how important Boston is for the USA. Much of what has shaped the country to this day began here.
Boston played a central role in the American Revolution. The city was the heart of the resistance against British colonial rule. Events such as the Boston Tea Party took place here, and these protests ultimately led to the Declaration of Independence.
A walk along the Freedom Trail brings the past to life. We visited historic places like the Old State House and Paul Revere's House. These buildings tell stories of courage and the fight for freedom, and you can really feel the atmosphere of times gone by.
The Battle of Bunker Hill is also significant. It showed that the colonists were determined to fight for their freedom. The Bunker Hill Monument today commemorates this time and is an impressive place to reflect.
In the 19th century, Boston became a center for education and culture. Universities such as Harvard and MIT continue to shape the city today, and these institutions attract students and researchers from all over the world. Boston is also known for its role in the abolitionist movement, as the city actively fought against slavery.

Culture and lifestyle in Boston New England
On my first vacation in Boston, I was immediately struck by the cultural diversity. The city combines tradition and modernity. Here, people live the American Dream with European flair, and this is reflected in many aspects of daily life.
Walking through the different neighborhoods, I got to know many facets of the city. Beacon Hill has historic houses and cobblestone streets, and this area exudes history. Little Italy, also known as the North End, offers authentic Italian cuisine. Here, the two of us ate in small restaurants and enjoyed the family atmosphere.
Boston is also a melting pot of different cultures. In Chinatown we immersed ourselves in another world, where we tried delicious dim sum and visited colorful markets. This cultural diversity enriches life in Boston immensely.
The lifestyle in Boston is relaxed and lively at the same time. People are proud of their city and their community. We attended a local farmers' market and talked to the vendors. Here we learned a lot about regional products and people's commitment to sustainable living.
Sports also play a big role in Boston, as the city loves its teams. A visit to Fenway Park, home of the Red Sox, is a must, as the enthusiasm of the fans is contagious.
The art scene in Boston is also remarkable. We visited several museums and galleries, and the visit to the Museum of Fine Arts was particularly impressive. The street art and small galleries also showed the creative side of the city.
Get to know the culinary scene on a Boston vacation
Boston is a paradise for foodies because the city offers an impressive culinary variety. On my first visit, I was immediately impressed by the famous Boston cuisine.
A must-try is of course the clam chowder, because this thick, creamy soup made of clams, potatoes and onions is a classic. We tried it at a variety of places, from upscale restaurants to small diner joints. Each place had its own interpretation, but all were delicious.
Another highlight was visiting the many seafood restaurants. Fresh lobster, oysters and mussels are omnipresent here. I was particularly fond of the lobster roll. A simple roll filled with fresh lobster meat and a little mayo. Simple, yet so good.
But Boston has more to offer than just seafood. The city is a melting pot of different cuisines. In Little Italy in the North End we ate fantastic pasta and tiramisu. The small, family-run restaurants offered an authentic experience.
Asian cuisine is also well represented in Boston. In Chinatown we discovered dim sum and other Chinese specialties. The variety of restaurants and food markets was overwhelming.
A special highlight was the visit to the Boston Public Market, where we bought fresh, local products and tried our way through the stalls. From handmade cheese to fresh fruit and vegetables - everything was there. It was a feast for the senses.
Important tips for your Boston vacation
During my last vacation in Boston, I collected some important tips that I would like to share with you.
Best time to travel
The best time to visit is in spring or autumn, as the weather is pleasant and the city is at its best. Summer can be hot and humid, while winter is cold and snowy.
Transport
The best way to get around Boston is on foot, as many of the sights are close to each other. I found it wonderful to explore the city on foot, as you discover so much more and can spontaneously stop off at small shops or cafés.
However, if you need to travel longer distances, public transportation is very convenient. The MBTA, also called the "T," is the city's subway and bus system. It's easy to use and gets you from A to B quickly. We used the "T" a lot and found it very reliable.
Sometimes it's also worth taking a taxi or Uber, especially if you have luggage or it's late. We had some pleasant rides with friendly drivers who gave us good tips.
An app for your Boston vacation
Another tip: download the Citymapper app as it will help you find the best way to get around whether you are walking, cycling or using public transport. We found it very helpful and used it daily.
