Cape Enrage: A natural wonder on the Bay of Fundy
A shrill scream drowns out the waves rolling on the sandy beach below the cliffs of Cape Enrage on the Bay of Fundy in New Brunswick. Before our eyes, a young woman wearing a safety helmet and harness is gliding through the air toward a wooden tower just meters from the lighthouse on the cape. She has thrown herself – with great courage, in my opinion – from the tops of the trees opposite. She is sliding down the zip line toward her family, who are waiting for her at the other end of the rope, cheering loudly. It wouldn't be for me, but she's obviously enjoying the adrenaline rush. The candidates for the next daring slide on the rope above the cliffs are already lined up, waiting to follow her.

Cape Enrage Lighthouse: History with a Sea View
Zip-lining is just one of the many pleasures that await visitors to Cape Enrage. We are on our journey from Fundy National Park to the Hopewell Rocks We passed by here. Therefore, we decided to take this detour to the coast. Now, after our walk to the lighthouse and along the cliff edge, we're sitting in the café in the former lighthouse keeper's house.
Viewing platforms and photo spots with breathtaking scenery
While enjoying a thick fish soup and a fresh lobster sandwich, we enjoy the view of the receding waters of the Bay of Fundy, which are increasingly revealing more of its red seabed. The view is breathtaking: to our right, the lighthouse rises above the cliffs. In front of us stretch the red expanses of the seabed of the bay that separates New Brunswick from Nova Scotia. To our left, one rocky outcrop stretches in front of the next, toward the flowerpot rocks at Cape Hopewell.

Cape Enrage owes the fact that all of this can still be seen and visited today to the young people of the area. It had already been decided that the lighthouse would be demolished. However, this was not at all what the students of the nearby school wanted. So they persuaded their teacher to protest against the tower's demolition. Together with him, they set about restoring the tower and renovating the lighthouse keeper's house. They offered more and more services to visitors, which, intrigued by the young people's efforts, attracted ever-greater numbers.
Activities and experiences around Cape Enrage
Everything visitors can see and use today at Cape Enrage: the lighthouse, the café, the snack bar, the zip line, the stairs leading down the cliffs to the beach, all originated from the initiative of a few local schoolchildren. They have remained faithful to their project to this day. The people who serve us lunch today, who assist the zip-liners with their slide along the cliffs, and who greet us at the parking lot are volunteers.
They have been involved in Cape Enrage and its renaissance since the very beginning of the project. They proudly present what they have achieved with great commitment and enthusiasm. They have created a place worth seeing, impressive not only for its spectacular location and landscape, but above all for the dedication of a few young people who set themselves a goal and achieved it.
Keep it up!
