Advent calendar at the Christmas market Schweinfurt

Christmas market Schweinfurt

For us, Christmas and the time before it belong to the end of a year. The Christmas time we like to enjoy. Without Christmas markets gingerbread scent and the smell of Mulled wine, Mulled cider or chocolate, the year is not complete. While we were traveling in Austria for the last few years, this year we will be heading north Bavaria's. We are in Franken. The Schweinfurt Christmas market in Franconia is an Advent market that we are visiting this year.

Christmas stalls

The wooden stalls with scents of cardamom, cloves and nutmeg, the two carousels, the children's ferris wheel and the Christmas tree in the middle of the market square in Schweinfurt conjure up an Advent atmosphere on the square in front of the town hall on the Main. We smell the flavors before we see the market. When we finally arrive at the square, the elk head greets us above the elk hut, where delicacies are offered.

Next to it is one of the carousels that is still waiting for its visitors at lunchtime. A mother finds it difficult to keep her two offspring from climbing onto the backs of the carousel horses or making themselves comfortable in one of the carousels. Only towards evening do the carousels go into operation under the gaze of the children at the Schweinfurt Christmas market.

We particularly like the advent calendar, which is modeled after the Schrotturm in Schweinfurt, one of the landmarks of the city. During Advent, a new door is opened daily.

Christmas market Schweinfurt - nice in the evening

When we return in the late afternoon, the square in front of the Schweinfurt town hall has filled up. It's just hard to get through between the market stalls. Everywhere friends, families and couples stand in front of the market stalls and let the Christmas balls and Christmas decorations take their effect. Hardly anyone can resist the temptations from the mulled wine stalls, the Christmas bakery and the sausage stands where the grilled sausages are offered. You can have a good time with the sounds of Christmas music. Friedrich Rückert calmly watches the goings-on beneath his statue.

She was constantly expanding her travel regions, but curiosity still gnawed at her: "What's beyond the horizon? What else is there to discover in this city? Which people are interesting here? What do they eat in this region?" As a freelance travel journalist (her articles have appeared in DIE ZEIT, 360° Canada, 360° USA, etc.), she is now looking for answers to these questions as a travel writer and travel blogger in many countries around the world.
