Dinner in the dunes in Nederzandt

On our trip to Flower corso in the Bollenstreek We discovered a great restaurant for a romantic dinner on the beach or a dinner with friends in Noordwijk in Holland: the Strandplaats Nederzandt, Just the idea of setting up a restaurant in the middle of the dunes deserves respect. Turning to such an excellent restaurant as the Nederzandt beach plaza requires admiration.

Perfect for a romantic dinner on the beach

When we heard that one evening of our stay in South Holland, a dinner on the beach was planned, I had imagined everything possible, just not what we expected at the beach Nederzandt: an elegant beach bar with comfortable sitting areas, an outdoor terrace, through glass walls protected from the wind blowing in from the sea, and a cozy restaurant where you can retire in cold weather. Most of all, I did not expect the wonderful food we were served.

Imagine that you drive for miles through a lonely dune landscape that separates the interior of South Holland from the coast, and suddenly you stand in the middle of the dunes in front of such a restaurant. It seemed like a mirage in the desert! Only that we could see from our table in the sand between the dunes the sea, and that over us seagulls were circling. It was still a bit fresh at the end of April, but we preferred to sit outside anyway because of this very special ambience. How should it be here on a warm summer evening?

A dinner full of fantasy at Nederzandt Strandplaats

The first impression at Strandplaats Nederzandt made us curious about the food. That was just as surprising - and good - as the restaurant itself. As an aperitif, we received a glass of cava with a fresh blossom in the glass: nice for the eye and for the taste. "You can eat the flowers," explained our waitress. But I liked the rose and violet blossoms with the champagne pearls far too well.

Satay in peanut sauce

Homemade wheat and rye bread rolls with poppy seeds, sesame, cheese and other seeds sprinkled with aioli Tapenade and truffle mayonnaise. As a starter I could not miss the shrimp cocktail - fresh from the sea. Petar chose smoked salmon Wakame kelp, Lemon and a sauce of wasabi and soy. As a main course we chose satay skewers with peanut sauce and various salads, which I liked very much. However, I would have rather served the sauce in a small bowl, the optical impression. In the photo my satay skewers in the sauce look drowned. They have tasted good anyway. We did not go to the dessert for these three courses, but again the offer was inviting.

Between the courses of our dinner I took the time to take a closer look at the restaurant. I especially enjoyed the open kitchen in the open, in the full baskets of fruit and vegetables waiting for their preparation. Fresh fish - sea bream, salmon and other native species of fish - were prepared for frying. Fennel, corn, pumpkin and bread stimulated the appetite. Here the eye eats clearly and above all makes curious about what is coming.
