Gros Morne National Park in Canada is a stunning natural oasis that offers many exciting activities and breathtaking views. Here we present the types of accommodation Gros Morne National Park has to offer. We'll show you the three hotels we've stayed in ourselves and explain why they turned out to be good choices. There are several towns in and near Gros Morne National Park where you can stay overnight. Most of the park is wilderness and stretches across hilly terrain that you can only see hiking trailsor boat trips.

 

 

You can only stay overnight in Gros Morne National Park in certain places. Before you arrive, you should think carefully about what activities you plan to do in the national park. Then you can plan your overnight stays. On our trip we looked at the region around Rocky Harbour, the Western Brook Pondand looked at the Woody Point area. For this reason we chose three places for our overnight stays. If we hadn't done this, we would have spent far too much time getting to our destinations.

 

Hotels in Gros Morne National Park

We chose our accommodations in Gros Morne National Park according to the activities we had planned in this national park. The first stop on our trip to Gros Morne National Park was Rocky Harbour. There we had planned to look at the city and its surroundings. We also wanted to take part in a kitchen party, which is typical for Newfoundland. That was a good fit, as our first activity in the national park was the hike and boat ride on Western Brook Pond. For that and for continuing north on the Viking Trail to L'Anse aux Meadowsthe hotel was also convenient. We stayed at the

The hotel proved to be a good choice for our accommodations in Gros Morne National Park. For one, the Ocean View Hotel is right on the water. Only Main Street separates it from Rocky Harbor Bay. The rooms are well equipped and modern. We were able to park our car for free directly at the hotel. The hotel has its own restaurant, where you can choose from specialties from the region. These include lobster and clams. There is also The Anchor Pub, which also serves light pub fare.

We planned our trip to stay at this hotel to experience the Kitchen Party this pub hosts in the summer. A real experience we will always associate with Newfoundland and Gros Morne National Park. If you are planning this as well, we recommend reserving tickets for the event in good time. It is very popular and tickets are hard to come by locally.

The hotel is also convenient for trips to the Visitor Centre, Gros Morne Wildlife Museum and Lobster Cove Head Lighthouse. The first two can even be reached on foot. It takes about five minutes by car to get to the lighthouse. In addition, you only need about twenty minutes by car to the parking lot for the hike to Western Brook Pond. This makes this one of the best places to stay in Gros Morne National Park if you want to check out these places.

After our hike and boat ride on Western Brook Pond, we didn't want to drive back to Rocky Harbor as we had planned to continue on the Viking Trail to the Viking settlement in L'Anse aux Meadows. A good choice, as it turned out. Because on the route north to L'Anse aux Meadows, the number of possible accommodations decreases sharply. This gave us enough time for the hike and the stay in Gros Morne National Park and we were then able to relax after the hike in our room. Incidentally, at the Shallow Bay Motel & Cabins you can not only stay in the usual motel rooms. There are also cabins near Gros Morne National Park. These have a fully equipped kitchen and their own living area. They are well suited for a longer stay in the national park.

However, don't expect fast WiFi here. This was very slow or absent almost everywhere in the regions along the Viking Trail towards the north.

There is a restaurant specializing in seafood at the motel. But you will also find pizza and chicken dishes on the menu. It is worth reserving a table for dinner. Because the nearest restaurant is 37 km away. When the motel is busy, the restaurant can get crowded. If you haven't worked out on a hike during the day, you can catch up in the fitness center. Or do you prefer a dip in the pool or a visit to the sauna after your hike? That is also possible.

Accommodation in the Tablelands region of Gros Morne National Park

On the return trip south from St. Anthony, we had planned to check out the Tablelands Visitor Center in Gros Morne National Park. We also wanted to hike in this region. However, the weather disrupted our plans, because it was pouring with rain. We therefore had more time to visit the Visitor Center. We were all the happier that we had reserved a good hotel in the region for the night. We spent the night in the hotel

Here you can relax in a pleasant atmosphere and enjoy the view of the bay. Not even the rain bothered us with the view. Even if we do ours hiking trailscouldn't do, we enjoyed the view of the bay after our visit to the visitor center. We even had our own kitchenette in the suite and could have used it to cook our dinner. Instead, we enjoyed the landlady's pizza in the restaurant that belongs to the accommodation. When the weather is nice, there is also a garden with barbecue facilities and a terrace. The wifi worked well here too. We had quite a few emails to work through after our days in northern Newfoundland. The rainy day on the Tablelands in Gros Morne National Park was good for this.

Arrival by plane, bus or train*. Air Canada flies to St. Johnon Newfoundland. Book a flight to first  Toronto, Montrealor  Halifax. You can then book a domestic flight to St. John's. The nearest airport is in Deer Lake (YDF) and is about 30 minutes away by car on the Viking Trail. Arriving by ferry from Nova Scotia, the journey takes about three and a half hours via Route 1 and Route 430.
