The monastery museum Stein am Rhein is worth a visit. The Benedictine Abbey of St. Georgen is considered to be one of the best-preserved monastery complexes in Switzerland. The construction phases between the 12th and 16th centuries can still be clearly seen today.
Stein am Rhein is one of the few Swiss cities located on both sides of the Rhine and is connected by a bridge that crosses the river. It got rich mainly because of its location in a very shallow place in the Rhine.
On the occasion of the 600th anniversary of the Council of Constance, something extraordinary came up in the kitchen of the Hotel Restaurant Rheingerbe in Stein am Rhein. The restaurant's guests were offered a menu consisting exclusively of ingredients that were known in the region 600 years ago.
