Göttweig Abbey in the Wachau in Austria

Göttweig Abbey in the Wachau can be seen from afar. It sits enthroned on a hill above the town of Furth near Krems on the southern foothills of the Dunkelsteinerwald in Lower Austria. The monastery goes back to the year 1083, when Bishop Altmann von Passau had a canon monastery built.

Stams Tirol and its sights

The place Stams Tirol is known for Stams Abbey. The Cistercian monastery of Stams in Tyrol has world-class cultural treasures. But the landscape in the upper Inn Valley is also worth a visit. There are many hiking opportunities here. Anglers also feel at home here.

Lilienfeld Abbey in Lower Austria goes back to the year 1202. Cistercians from Heiligenkreuz were the first to inhabit the abbey. The steps to the guest wing of the monastery are crooked from the many feet that went over them. Here you can experience a break in the monastery that transports you to another time.

Monastic gardens in Lower Austria

We were en route for three days on our Klostergarten route through Lower Austria. We visited five monastery gardens. We promised ourselves a pleasure for the eyes and senses. But the trip held a lot more surprises in store.
