Winter impressions from the Waldviertel
We spent the past weekend in Lower Austria close to Zwettl at the Hotel Schwarz Alm. This hotel is located on a large meadow in the middle of the forest. We were there to get to know the hotel, its offers and its surroundings better.
We were lucky enough to be able to experience winter the way it should be. With snow-covered fields, trees covered in frost, and frozen lakes. Our winter impressions from the Waldviertel we captured in photos. We present this to you here. Let yourself be carried away into a winter wonderland.
We arrived from the still snow-free Rupertiwinkel. There is still no trace of snow here. However, the frost days are increasing. The frost provides the first winter feeling in the early morning. In the Waldviertel, however, things are already looking very different. There the mountain heights are already deeply snowed. Lakes are frozen over and trees along the country roads are covered with frost all day. but wrapped up warm with a thick winter boots Is it fun. That made for magical winter impressions on our trips through the Waldviertel. But see for yourself:
Winter can be so beautiful in the Waldviertel
If the winter is like we've just experienced it in the Waldviertel, then it's fun. Untouched snow surfaces to the horizon - white as far as the eye can see. It does not matter if it's snow or frost that enchants the landscape. Trees and shrubs where the hoarfrost hangs so heavy that it pulls the branches down. Christmas tree balls covered with white frost, where they are exposed to the cold. Blades of grass bending under the weight of frost. Lakes that are already covered by a thick layer of ice. So far we do not dare to walk out onto the lake. Who knows if the ice already carries us? But maybe at the end of winter?
In any case, such sights trigger a true happiness. That's how winter has to be so it's fun! Or what do you mean? Are you a winter person or are you drawn to the heat instead?

Dreamlike pictures and nice report. With your texts I always get a little homesick. I miss the second winter at home and fight with the heat here in Ecuador. But I am very happy that you let me participate in the beautiful winter atmosphere at home.

Admittedly, from Uganda into the winter in the Waldviertel, it is quite a nice jump. But one thing does not exclude the other: D. For a long time I spent the winter in Australia, Central America or the South of Africa for the same reasons - because I liked sunshine rather than snow. At some point, however, I had enough of sun all year long. Meanwhile, a good mix of both is very nice to me, otherwise it gets boring. On the contrary, in the meantime, I also long for the Arctic, where I spent years traveling. I miss that today. Although the Waldviertel is not a substitute, but the winter is really beautiful there: D.

I'm definitely a summer person, but also like to have some hiking snow. Especially in such weather as you had it. Really winter wonderland.
Winter can be very nice, Antje. Our trip to the Waldviertel proved that once again. Although we are not skiers or snowboarders, we always find something that interests us. That can be museums, festivals or customs - or we make ourselves comfortable in a spa and enjoy the winter from the rest room: D. That too is winter holidays ... This time it was nature that inspired us.
I could watch such winter impressions and photos of hoarfrost and snow for hours. But tell me, where is Zwettl?
Haha, Daniela. I had asked that before our first trip to the Austrian Waldviertel. It is located about 130 kilometers northwest of Vienna and about 100 kilometers northeast of Linz. Meanwhile, we have been there several times.
I have never had a winter vacation directly, but I love snow and I love it when it gets cozy. Your pictures not only made me want to visit the Waldviertel, but also brought me into the Christmas spirit - thanks for that :)

I am very happy, dear Nicole. I also thought until a few years ago that holidays in winter need not be. But since our first winter trips with snow, we've discovered how beautiful that can be, even when you're not skiing. For us, this is the time to relax best. Then you often have sights to yourself, while in the summer often in the queue. Even if some things do not open in winter ... what the hell! You can enjoy them for that. This is much more important to us than seeing everything.
