Referred to as Trail A on the park map, this route begins at Gate 1. This trail takes you along a series of boardwalks and footpaths that meander along the lower portion of the park, giving you an up-close look at the spectacular waterfalls and vibrant lakes. The trail is relatively easy, suitable for all fitness levels, and offers a chance to admire the famous Veliki Slap waterfall, the park's largest waterfall.

Path length:

The trail covers approximately 3,5 kilometers and is a circular route that starts and ends near the park's entrance 1, making it easy to navigate the trail.

Difficulty of the trail:

The Lower Lakes Trail is considered relatively easy and suitable for all fitness levels. The well-maintained trails and gentle inclines make it accessible to families, recreational hikers, and those looking for a leisurely stroll amidst natural beauty.

Hiking duration:

The duration of the hike on the Lower Lakes Trail is typically 2 to 3 hours, depending on your pace, the number of breaks, and the time you spend admiring the scenery.

Directions:

Get ready for a beautiful journey that starts at Entrance 1, where scenic views await you from above. As you make your way down the footbridges, enjoy the scenic surroundings. Follow the easy path that takes you past mesmerizing emerald green ponds. Along the way you will come to a point where you can take a short detour to admire the magnificent Veliki Slap waterfall. Don't miss this opportunity; take the detour, admire the waterfall and then return to the crossroads before continuing.

The path gradually takes you across the lower lakes, revealing their beauty as you move to the opposite side. There you can climb up to the elevated path and make your way back to entrance 1.

This trail is labeled Trail C on the official map if you start from Entrance 1, or Trail H if you start from Entrance 2. It takes you deeper into the heart of Plitvice and offers panoramic and quieter surroundings. As you hike the trail, you'll be rewarded with breathtaking views of the interconnected lakes, tranquil forests, and secluded corners of natural beauty.

Path length:

The trail extends for approximately 8 kilometers and is also a circular route, starting and ending near the entrance to the park.

The duration of the hike is usually 4 to 6 hours depending on your pace, the number of breaks and the time you spend admiring the scenery. Plan accordingly and allow enough time to fully enjoy the trail.

Directions:

To begin your journey, start from Entrance 1 and follow the detailed description of the Lower Lakes Trail given in the previous section.

Alternatively, if you start from entrance 2, take the shuttle bus from ST2 to ST1. From there you can take a leisurely 10-15 minute walk along the trail to reach Entrance 1 and then follow the Lower Lakes Trail description mentioned earlier.

Instead of walking back like the Lower Lakes Trail, head to Jetty P3, which will take you to Jetty P1. From P1, you'll board another boat to take you to the mesmerizing Upper Lakes via jetty P2. You will be guided along a pleasant walking trail, clearly marked with signs, which will take you to ST3, the final shuttle bus stop. Immerse yourself in the stunning scenery as you await every step. You will soon arrive at the ST3 shuttle bus stop.

If your desired destination is Entrance 1, simply hop on the shuttle bus, which will comfortably take you back to ST1. From there it's just a leisurely 10-15 minute walk along the path to return to Entrance 1. However, if your final destination is Entrance 2, hop on the shuttle bus that will comfortably take you back to ST2.

Immerse yourself in the captivating allure of the Upper and Lower Lakes hiking trails and create unforgettable memories that will last a lifetime.

Whether you start from entrance 1 or entrance 2, you can enter this trail and explore the beauty of Plitvice Lakes National Park.

Path length:

The trail extends approximately 18,3 kilometers. It is also a circular route, starting and ending near the entrance to the park.

Difficulty of the trail:

The trail is difficult, with uneven terrain, some uphill sections and longer stretches compared to the previous trails. Although the trail offers its challenges, the views more than make up for the effort.

The duration of the hike is usually 6 to 8 hours. This depends on your pace, the number of breaks and the time you spend in the beautiful scenery. Plan accordingly and allow enough time to fully enjoy the trail.

Directions:

The trail starts the same as the other two routes. It explores the lower lakes in their entirety and then leads to the P3 jetty. Unlike the other trails where the boat goes across Jezero Kozjak Lake, trail K takes you around the entire lake on foot. After walking along Jezero Kozjak, you will reach a crossroads. There you hike to the upper lakes to have some beautiful viewpoints from above. However, instead of taking the ST3 shuttle bus back, you continue on foot. You go around the upper lakes and return to jetty P2. From the P2 jetty, take the short ride to the P1 jetty. From there you then hike along the other side of Jezero Kozjak Lake until you reach ST1 and eventually return to Entrance 1.
