Mountain meadows in the Kleinwalsertal in spring

A stay in the mountains has its charm at any time of the year. Here you can always enjoy nature. It is most beautiful in the Alps when the mountain meadows are in bloom. The Kleinwalsertal in spring is a dream. This became apparent during our press trip Kleinwalsertal in Vorarlberg Confirmed at the beginning of June. Kleinwalsertal Tourismus invited us as travel bloggers to the Walser Gourmet Days.

This is a weekend when the gourmet restaurateurs, the hotels and the producers of the Senn cheeses, ham, bacon and sausage products made from beef and game celebrate themselves and their goods. We take the opportunity and follow you Tip from the service at the Travel Charme Ifen Hotel, which serves us a menu made from these ingredients every evening. Therefore we take a detour into the “Wäldele”, a side valley that branches off to the right from the road to Ifen. As is often the case, tips from locals prove to be the best. Without their suggestion we would have missed one of the most beautiful experiences of our stay in Kleinwalsertal.

Spring bloom

On the way there we drive past mountain meadows where daisies are blooming as well as hogweed, whose flowers cover the slopes. They give them a look that is enchanting. This is especially noticeable when the sun comes in from the side and illuminates the mountain sides with its morning light.

Gentian, orange-red hawkweed and sweet-smelling hazelnut add splashes of color to the meadows, making them a feast for the eyes. We can't get enough of the play of colors in the middle of the green, which brings different colors into the foreground every few meters. In some places, certain flowers feel particularly at home and grow in masses.

A Overview of when which flowers bloom in the Alps, you will find in this article about the Alpine Flowers experience.

Mountain huts and hikers in the Kleinwalsertal in spring

We drive past mountain huts, in front of which hikers get ready for their day hike. They take out walking sticks and tie theirs Windbreakers around the hips, because the sun is already shining warm from the sky, they pull walking boots on and swing it backpack on the back. Sure is this with one snack filled with Landjäger, bacon, Sennkäse and bread. Then off we go, past the meadows, where bees and bumblebees can now enjoy a feast and collect honey that will later be for sale in the markets of the region.

Horses in the woods

Deeper in the “Wäldele” we pass paddocks where piebalds enjoy the spring grass. They belong to the Hammerer horse breeding, which offers horse-drawn carriage rides in summer and sleigh rides with their horses in winter. Maybe we'll come back soon and treat ourselves to a trip? Who knows? In any case, the horses obviously enjoy their spring on the meadow. They romp around the meadows and enjoy their greenery.

The mountain meadow blossom in the Wäldele is beautiful in the Kleinwalsertal in spring

The further we go into the "Wäldele", the more intense the mountain meadow bloom seems. We're here just in time to see it all. I would love to wander through the meadow to pick a bouquet of flowers for the living room at home. But the flowers certainly won't survive the trip back in the summer heat. So I prefer to let them grow on the mountain slopes and take photos of them that I can show you. Aren't they beautiful, the mountain meadows in Kleinwalsertal? How do you like you?

Spring awakening in Kleinwalsertal: A paradise for nature lovers

Spring in Kleinwalsertal is a real highlight for everyone who loves nature and enjoys being out and about in the mountains. The valley, surrounded by the peaks of the Allgäu Alps, awakens from its hibernation at this time of year and offers a perfect backdrop for those seeking relaxation and adventurers.

Arrival in Kleinwalsertal

The Kleinwalsertal is particularly easy to reach by car. From Germany, the route leads directly into the valley via Kempten and Oberstdorf, without the need for a vignette, as there is no direct road connection to Austria. For those who prefer to travel by public transport instead, you can take the train to Oberstdorf, from where you can take the bus directly into the valley.

Weather and clothing

Spring in the Kleinwalsertal often starts slowly. Snow-covered peaks are not uncommon until the late spring months, so it's important to check the weather before traveling. Temperatures range from a cool 5 degrees in the early morning hours to a pleasant 15 degrees in the afternoon. Layered clothing is therefore recommended: Start with a warm base, for example Thermal underwear, and put flexible layers of clothing on top that you can put on and take off as needed. One waterproof and windproof jacket should not be missing, as well as sturdy shoes, ideally hiking boots, which offer good grip even on paths that are still slightly snowy.

Perfect time for nature lovers

In spring the flora and fauna of the Kleinwalsertal come to life. Colorful flower meadows and the fresh green of the trees make hikes through the valley a visual feast. The clear mountain air and the quiet atmosphere are a blessing for the soul - ideal for escaping the stressful everyday life.

    1. Oh yes, that's her. We did not know her before our visit on the weekend and we are very excited. Especially the blooming mountain meadows have done it to us, and of course the culinary specialties :)
